Common Warthog phacochoerus africanus
The common warthog (phacochoerus africanus) is a wild member of the pig family that lives in family groups, called soundings, until (after 2 years) the males disperse and form bachelor groups. The common warthog is an omnivore, primarily grazing in the grassland, but also eating roots, berries, the bark of young trees, and occasionally carrion or dung. This specific group of pigs are the prey of the powerful and dangerous lion. They attempt to avoid being caught and killed as prey for the lion by sheltering during the night (they have poor eyesight) and using their impressive speed to flee the predator.roots, berries, bark of young trees, and occassionaly carrionroots, berries, bark of young trees, and occassroots, berries, bark of young trees, and occassionaly carrionroots, berries, bark of young trees, and occassionaly carrionroots, berries, bark of young trees, and occassionaly carrionrootli
